Reconnecting Sungrow inverters to the internet

Reconnecting Sungrow inverters to the internet

Notes
Applies to most Sungrow models starting with SG and SH
Alert
Your Internet router requires WIFI Bandwidth of 2.4GHz, and WPA2 or WPA3 security for the inverter to connect

Download the Sungrow Technical Guide with steps on how to reconnect your inverter

The document is attached at the bottom of this article.

Preparation - locate the WIFI dongle

Most current model Sungrow inverters use a WIFI dongle to connect to the internet.

In many cases, this area of the inverter is concealed by a black cover to protect the cable inputs.

The dongle is visible beneath the cover, but the QR code is still inaccessible.

Warning
Hot Tip:
If covered, remove the WIFI dongle to access the QR code

As you will need to scan the QR code as part of the procedure to reconnect it to your internet, try removing the WIFI dongle first and take a photo of it on a different phone.
Then you can scan the photograph of the QR code when using the iSolarCloud app.

How the dongle is held in place
The dongle is held in place by two small clips on the base of the dongle.
Carefully reach up, squeeze each clip and pull downwards.

Photograph the QR code, replace the dongle, and commence the steps provided by Sungrow.

⚠️ Important Limitations & What You Must Know

📡 Wi-Fi Dongle Only Works on 2.4 GHz Networks

This is the single most important technical constraint:

🚫 The Sungrow Wi-Fi dongle supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
It will not connect to 5 GHz networks or dual-band routers set to 5 GHz-only mode.

What this means:

  • Check your router settings and make sure there is a 2.4 GHz SSID active.

  • Some modern routers broadcast 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under the same network name (SSID). In these cases, the inverter may still struggle — and you may need to:

    • Create a separate 2.4 GHz-only network name (SSID).

    • Temporarily disable the 5 GHz band during setup.

  • Most routers allow you to configure this via their admin interface — refer to your router’s manual or support site for help.

🏡 Home Networking Is NOT Covered by Tindo Warranty

It’s crucial to understand where responsibility ends:

❗️Assisting with home Wi-Fi network configuration is not part of the supplier’s responsibility, and issues related to home network setup are not covered under the product warranty.

  • We're happy to help troubleshoot your home Wi-Fi setup, but this will incur additional costs.

  • If you’re not familiar with your router’s settings, you may need help from:

    • Your internet provider

    • A local IT technician

    • Router manufacturer support

  • This is standard — solar hardware warranties cover the inverter hardware and its internal firmware, not your home network.
